I got the env2 as an upgrade through verizon and went with the mobile web 2.0 for $5. what costs are associated with this, such as airtime, for when i use this feature? i also have unlimited text messages, so would mobile IM cost anything on top of this?

Mobile Web 2.0 is unlimited-any time. Mobile IM uses text messages, so since you have unlimited, you should be covered.
you should be covered but i will warn you about the ENV2 it is crap i am on my 4th one right now…. i had a samsung sch-u740 (the new name is alias) for over a year and i decided i wanted to upgrade to the env2 i have a black one, omg this phone is horrible, well i am going back to samsung after 3 hrs on the phone fussing with VZW i am getting the Glyde for $50 yea i know right awesome lol…
and btw the Env2 you can upgrade to Mobile IM 3.0… i strongly suggest this to where when you are sending a msg and have to close it really quick (like in class) you dont have to wait for the msg to send because on the 3.0 you hit the send button it is sent there is no waiting for 15 secs like on 2.0
